HOCKEY: Scots record second World Cup success.(Sport) - Birmingham Evening Mail (England)

SCOTLAND secured their second win of the women's World Cup to ensure they avoided finishing last in their pool but the threat of being involved in the play-offs for the wooden spoon remains.

The Scots comfortably beat Russia 3-0 in Perth with second-half goals from Sydney Olympian Rhona Simpson (two) and Louise Carroll (penalty stroke).

Their final group game is against Korea tomorrow - a match which will decide their place for the final classification matches.

Meanwhile, England coach Tricia Heberle has criticised a number of her players for lacking motivation when it comes to the less glamorous games. Her side have performed heroically in running defending champions Australia and five-time winners Holland close but have been disappointing in other group games - yesterday's 1-0 victory over the USA a case in point.

Having drawn 2-2 with South Africa and 1-1 with Japan, Heberle is losing patience with her squad. 'We got the three points against the USA but it was less than convincing,' Heberle said.

'We need to kill off the teams that are around or below us. We had five pool games, excluding Australia and Holland, with the potential to get 15 points.

'There are no excuses for not being motivated when you represent your country.'

Yesterday's result keeps England in with a chance of a top six finish.
